Flower Socks: What is Art?, 2023

What draws me to fiber and natural dyeing is the use of nature itself. Everything that is used in my fiber art comes from the Earth. From the wool I spin, to the flowers I use to dye with, to the wooden knitting needles I use. But another thing that interests me is thinking about what art can be. When you think about art, you think of paintings in museums, but what if art could be something you wore, like socks. I worked everyday for hours on these socks for a whole month, which to me means it's art. I spun the yarn, picked the goldenrod, dyed the yarn with those flowers, created my own sock pattern, and knit the socks. I created something so beautiful and useful from sheep and flowers, and if that's not art, I don't know what is.
