These vases are created from lace crocheted onto gourds, then stiffened with a cornstarch solution, and secured to a frame in order to be hung sideways. Fiber and textiles were consistently seen as crafts, not art, until the 20th century. This piece challenges that way of thinking by creating vases and flipping them, making them into art instead.
