Knitting, crocheting, and overall making has always been my go to when I am stressed or just bored. I learned to knit when I was 5 and crochet when I was 6, and since then I’ve always been making things. It wasn’t until the Covid lockdown happened that I actually started to take crafting seriously. In February of 2021 I got sick with Covid, and from there I became chronically ill. While I was trying to figure out what was going on with my body, all I could do was sit on the couch waiting for doctors appointments. I couldn’t stand up for more than a few minutes and I couldn’t do most of my other hobbies like reading or playing instruments, so I started to knit and crochet again.
Knitting, especially, taught me so much patience during this year of almost total isolation. The act of knitting can be time consuming and if you make a mistake, it’s difficult to make the decision to undo all your progress just to fix it. But because of the trauma I was going through in real life, these small challenges were able to help me deal with the bigger challenges presented to me in real life.
Even though my health has drastically improved in the past two years, I have only gotten deeper into my fiber art journey. My art currently focuses on nature and how I can use fiber to tell my stories. Thank you for being apart of my journey.
