Biography
Zoe Gras is a fiber artist from Ithaca, New York, currently based in New York City. Her practice centers on emotion, water, and the expressive potential of textiles. Working primarily on the knitting machine, Gras explores how material structure can reflect inner states, whether calm, turbulent, or in a state of transformation. She first turned to fiber art in 2021 after becoming chronically ill, finding in it a way to translate feeling into form and reconnect with her body through making. Her work often incorporates hand-spun and hand-dyed yarn, beads, and naturally found objects, drawing on both personal experience and the shared narratives of women and queer communities. Blending traditional techniques such as knitting, spinning, weaving, and lacemaking, Gras uses textile language to explore vulnerability, resilience, and care. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Textiles at The New School in New York City.
